Want to try something edgy and cool, but don’t want to drastically cut your hair? Why not try these braided mohawk hairstyles for women?
A mohawk is a rebellious hairstyle made popular by the punk movement of the 1970s. In this style, the sides of the head were shaved off, leaving a strip of spiky hair in the middle.
A lot of women are wearing their hair in a mohawk. And I always wanted one too. But I was also really hesitant to shave a large chunk of my locks.
So I found these braided mohawk hairstyles for women to be a very fun alternative.

You can create a braided mohawk or more accurately a faux hawk by braiding your head in a particular way.
And voila! You have a mohawk without any drastic changes to your hairstyle! It’s amazing because you can let down your hair and style it differently at any time.
Something that’s almost impossible if you’re getting a regular mohawk.
These braided mohawk hairstyles for women are not just for African American hair that is braided into protective hairstyles.
If you have fine, thin hair or type 1 or 2 hair textures, you can still try out these braided mohawks by using fishtail braids, Viking braids, other braided hairstyles that suit your hair textures.

Braided Mohawk Hairstyles For Women
Here are some of my favorite braided mohawk hairstyles for women. With these inspirations, you can indulge your punk side for a brief time without doing anything extreme to your tresses.
#1- Fully Braided Mohawk Hairstyles For Women
This is the most classic version of the braided mohawk. This is great for type 4b and 4c hair which has been braided into a protective hairstyle.
The braids in the middle are then braided together again (think of it as a French braid for braids) to create a faux hawk.
#2- Spiral Crochet Mohawk Braided Hairstyles For Women
If you want your braids to have volume and thickness, this is among the best, braided mohawk hairstyles to try.
You can get this look by braiding the hair sections on the side to resemble a spiral and gathering the micro braids on the top of your head to resemble a mohawk.
#3- Spring Narrow Mohawk Braids
You’ve seen what a fully braided hairstyle looks like, right? Just imagine this as a partially braided version of the same.
Here, the mohawk section of the hair at the crown of your head isn’t braided. It’s let loose and curled to add volume.
You can use hairspray to add more texture. And if your locks are too fine, I suggest getting a curly hair extension instead.
#4- One Side Flow Mohawk
Traditionally mohawks are supposed to be the dead center of your head and appear spiky and controlled. However, that’s not easy to do with long, wavy hair.
So you can just braid one side of your head in any direction you like and leave your wavy hair open, completely towards the other side.
#5- Side Braids Faux Hawk
This is one of the easiest braided hairstyles for women with long and wavy or straight hair.
Unlike crochet braids or cornrows, you don’t need a professional to create this hairstyle!
All you need to do is add loads of body to your locks with help of a texturizing spray and braid the side sections into a fishtail.
Now pile the middle section on top of your head like a faux hawk and use a hairspray to keep it in place.
#6- Multiple Cornrow Braided Mohawk For Little Girl
In this type of braided mohawk hairstyle, the tresses are braided into cornrows, which are then again twisted into a single braid on the top of your head like a mohawk.
This is a very practical and cute hairstyle for little girls as well.
#7- Rolled Up Mohawk Braid
Instead of piling the braids on your head to create a faux hawk, in this hairstyle, you need to twist them into rolls and pin them into place.
It’s also called a pin-up braided faux hawk.
#8- Royal Mohawk Braids
This hairstyle takes your mohawk a bit further and adds a lot of shine and volume to it.
#9- Open Top with Side Braid Mohawk
You can create this hairstyle by first taking out an extreme partition to the side and then micro braiding your locks.
Do not braid all the way through and keep the ends open. These ends will help create your open-top mohawk.
#10- Natural Mohawk Braids
This hairstyle is very sporty and sophisticated at the same time. The braided mohawk for natural hair won’t be out of place for a dinner date either.
#11- Braided Mohawk Hairstyle with Shaved Sides
If you’re comfortable with shaving the sides but still want to keep some length in the middle, you can try out these braided mohawk hairstyles for women.
#12- Braided Mohawk with High Ponytail
You can create a faux hawk by braiding your hair into a French plait and then tying the rest of your locks into a high ponytail.
This is a very easy hairstyle to create and you can wear it to school as well.
#13- Classy Braided Mohawk
A mohawk? At a wedding? No way! But it’s possible with this hairstyle.
It looks very sophisticated but still makes you stand out from the crowd.
#14- Faux Hawk with Curly Bangs
This braided hairstyle will help you not only get mohawk but also bangs without technically getting a haircut for either of them!
You can combine the braids and mohawk with a half up half down hairstyle for a more elegant look.
